Musée-Promenade in Marly-le-Roi - Louveciennes
“Sire, Marly” was the phrase that Louis XIV’s guests used to utter in awe. Come and discover the Sun King’s other palace, now destroyed, a sumptuous yet intimate place where he came to amuse himself in the company of a few privileged courtiers.
The museum’s collections retrace the history of Louis XIV’s estate, and how it was developed under Louis XV and Louis XVI. One part of the collection is also devoted to the famous Machine de Marly.
To make your visit complete, a tour of the Parc de Marly is a must. Created by Jules Hardouin-Mansart for Louis XIV, the royal estate is still beautiful. With its perspectives, ponds, statues and abreuvoir (watering-place) adorned with the famous “Chevaux de Marly” sculpted by Guillaume Coustou, the overall aspect of the park still leaves a striking impression.
